Terry Brown, the man who opened fire in a crowded St. Paul bar in October 2021, has been sentenced to just under 37 years in prison.
Brown is one of two men involved in a shootout that killed 27-year-old Marquisha Wiley and injured 14 others. He used a firearm he could not legally own as a previously convicted felon.
“I stand before you today as a grieving big sister, broken hearted and devastated by the tragic loss of my beloved younger sister,” Marquisha’s sister Aundrea Wiley said. “Words cannot begin to express the pain and anguish that I have experienced since her life was senselessly taken from us due to the actions of two men and their choice to choose gun violence.”
Brown and his co-defendant Devandre Phillips drew their guns at the Seventh Street Truck Park bar where Wiley, her brother and a handful of friends were caught in the crossfire. Wiley died in her brother's arms.
Brown has maintained that he fired in self-defense, and that Phillips fired the first shot. He also apologized to Wiley’s family for his actions that night. Phillips is currently serving 29 years in prison for eight counts of attempted murder.
